Job Description

The SMT Supervisor is responsible for the management of the SMT Team on the first shift to help assure that our equipment and personnel are used in the most efficient manner to help us deliver a defect free product on time to our customers. Additionally, the SMT Supervisor will communicate the SMT production priorities to the second shift Supervisor and/or the second shift SMT Operators although the supervision of the second shift SMT Team is the responsibility of the second shift supervisor. The SMT Supervisor works closely with the Production Manager, the First Shift Supervisor and the quality organization to clearly identify priorities, issues and concerns that may prevent us from delivering a defect free product on time.Duties/Responsibilities:
  • The SMT Supervisor controls daily operation of the SMT production lines through the SMT Operators and support personnel for the first shift but does not include the NPI/Prototype SMT/PTH assembly area nor the second shift which each have their own supervisor.
  • Help to identify necessary training needed for the safe and efficient operation of the SMT lines and is the company authority when it comes to the SMT equipment.
  • Assignment and utilization of the SMT Team which is defined as the equipment and personnel directly associated with the operation of the SMT lines to include but is not limited to: screen printers, conveyor systems, SMT Pick and Place equipment, solder reflow machines and AOI equipment. The AOI operators report directly to the Quality Manager but the daily work direction/priorities are given by the SMT Supervisor.
  • Assigns SMT Team personnel (and support personnel such as AOI operator, SMT rework, etc.) day to day work assignments.3
  • The SMT Supervisor uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to assist with programming, set up equipment/processes, enter data, and/or process information.
  • Developing and/or maintaining programs associated with surface mount machines.
  • Setting up SMT production equipment and machinery.
  • Reading and understanding the different characteristics of solder paste, stencils and screen printers.
  • Understanding polarity/orientation, package size and values of components.
  • Using precision measuring tools or equipment as they pertain to SMT production and equipment.
  • Loading or unloading components or PCB into the SMT equipment.
  • Establish temperature profiles for the re-flow soldering machines and their operating characteristics.
  • Positioning, aligning, and adjusting SMT equipment and component parts to facilitate assembly.
  • Adjusting process parameters to assure a defect free product.
  • Correcting problems by adjusting controls or stopping machines
  • Assures, through the SMT personnel, that all aspects of machines are monitored and controlled during the SMT assembly process.
Qualifications Profile: 
  • Professional demeanor and appearance while working within an ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 environment
  • Detail oriented and possess excellent organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work constructively with individuals at all levels of responsibility
  • Basic computer skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with, or ability to quickly learn collaboration tools such as SharePoint
Education and Experience
  • A technical associates level degree and/or equivalent SMT/PTH work experience
  • Electronic manufacturing experience and/or willingness to learn the position
  • Familiar with basic measuring instruments and devices
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 requirements
  • Previous experience working in an electronic manufacturing environment is desired but not required
